I was born in the Netherlands some 28 years ago. The flag of this monarchy features a basic design of three horizontal stripes, each of which display a different color. Hoisted on Dutch flag poles, this banner displays nicely in all weather conditions. It has been in use some seventy plus years.
As of late Europe have been in the news for mainly debt related issues. For years countries all over the world have had deficits. Fortunately, and good on them really, the Netherlands has done relatively well in maintaining a good financial record. Considered a stronghold, along with countries such as Germany, the EU has become somewhat dependent on these strongholds for future safety and stability.
The tricolor’s flag-proportions have been the same for years and are two the three. This tricolor features three different colors: blue, red and the color white. Like other ensigns and tricolors of different countries, the Dutch tricolor has existing variants that are hoisted on Dutch flag poles, at times, throughout the nation. As usual, the applied colors are different, and so is the general design of the variants.
The capital city of this wonderful land of windmills, tulips and beautiful girls is Amsterdam, even though the government-seat is the city of The Hague. There are a number of airports that handle local, regional and international traffic. Schiphol Airport is the biggest airport in the country, and is located south of the city of Amsterdam. The national airline is KLM, which is short for (in English) Royal Airline Company. They have in business for years, if not decades and fly to destinations of all kinds, including a variety in the United States.
One of the countries that is included in the Kingdom of the Netherlands is Aruba. Aruba is a beautiful island that unfortunately has been in the news somewhat negatively because of the events that surround the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. The flag of Aruba was actually adopted back in 1976. This blue colored ensign also featured two yellow colored thin horizontal bands and a 4 pointed red colored star in the canton. The four points are said to represents the four main languages spoken on this island.
I always take pleasure in observing banners, ensigns and flags hoisted on Dutch flagpoles. Some interesting similarities are in existence between the flags of Luxembourg, Russia, Croatia, France and Paraguay. The ensign of Paraguay is especially similar to the Dutch banner, except for the use of a coat of arms on the center horizontal band.
